Commissioned

As I’m slow-walking my way through the gospels, today it occurred to me that I’m not walking in the fullness of the Great Commission. I thought this because my Bible commentary highlighted that Jesus called for us to do the same works, and greater works than He did. And despite hearing this during church sermons and in Bible study, it resonated today. Now that I household wickedness has been exposed and God is cleaning house, I have work to do. Power has to be used. I have power for more than my day-to-day tasks. For a split second, I felt the wastefulness of what I have been given, how I’ve only been thinking of my desperate needs. Meanwhile, the power that I carry is potent to heal, cast out demons, and raise the dead.  And I saw myself deciding that only certain people- pastors- were equipped to do that. Could I possibly do that? I ask that of myself, yet the power has been released to do so.

I took a walk the other day, telling God that I’m not happy about the mundanity of life. It can’t all be how things are right now. There has to be more worth striving for than praying for money, and stability in life, and purpose fulfillment. It just felt lacking somehow. I know that this restlessness is a signal for a need for change, for exercising Abrahamic faith, for blossoming out of the cocoon.

Life is not supposed to feel like a cycle of life and death where you’re transitioning from one state to the other, doing the best you can. It’s too precious to coast through, and every individual purpose too valuable to dismiss.

So, I pray God opens doors of boldness and courage to fulfill the commission.  As my Bible commentary notes: “Every true born-again believer should be involved in fulfilling this commission.” May God open our eyes and take us on a higher plane that is beyond the height of our eyesight.

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe: in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover...." Mark16: 15-18
