As I was scrolling on Threads, I read a comment that said, “You really gotta be OK with walking with God, having no idea where y’all are going.”
I chuckled. Walking with God often feels like an extreme sport. I think most times you don’t know the specific destination, so the level of trust required is astronomical. Other times, He tells you where you’re going, but the how is another level of trust required, because the tools given don’t always seem appropriate for the project.
It can be exhilarating to take a leap of faith. I like the idea of going on adventures, and oftentimes that’s how I see the new paths that He leads me on. However, the novelty and the excitement wear off, and the real test of faith begins. One sure thing that we all hear and know but is extremely important is reading the word. Someone called it the cheat code of life. It’s the manual for the path ahead. It’s the light that shows you where to go, it’s the shield that defends you, the medicine that heals, the salve for every injury. It’s the anchor that keeps you steady when the winds of life become too boisterous to endure.
Worship: among many of its spiritual benefits, worship helps drive away fear and anxiety. It keeps you in an atmosphere where you’re better able to hold on to the Word and trust it. It lifts you up into a different stratosphere, and you soar unencumbered by the worries of life. Amidst every challenge or worry , you’ll handle them soberly and confidently.
Personal time with God: I think this one is important. Make time to sit and talk honestly. Candidly. I find that in these moments you go beyond the churchy formalities, and you can be honest in a way that you’re not in general. It’s in these moments that God can reveal your heart and reveal Himself too. Worship and reading of the Word can become routine, and you can be doing the right things and yet are still disconnected. However, these quiet moments can reveal the source of your disconnection. It could be unbelief. Fear. It could be pride. However, sometimes you’re in His presence, learning, and perhaps just shooting the breeze with God.
All these things increase your faith to continue to walk when you have no idea where you’re going. They bring you comfort when you’re afraid. They give you the vim to pursue harder. This journey is hard, but we’re not meant to walk it by sight.
Remember: the just shall live by faith (Romans1:17).
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; he delights in his way (Psalm 37:23).
He’s the captain of your destiny. Your faith fuels the ship, as He steers you to where He has purposed.
