Do not be merciful when you raise your hand against them on my behalf
Do not let up your wrath, Lord.
And when it comes down, remember my tears,
Remember the shame and disgrace they plotted to bring to your daughter
And let not their pleading find favour with you, oh my Lord;
For their wickedness, let your Spirit avenge me.
For those who wronged me without provocation, and sought to bring me shame,
let shame be upon their heads seven-fold.
Are you not the God who avenges?
I have left room for you; will you not repay?

Yes, “may the table set before them become a snare;
May it become retribution and a trap.
May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see,
And their backs be bent forever.
Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them;
Let there be no one to dwell in their tents.
Charge them with crime upon crime;
Do not let them share in your salvation.
May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous.
Yes, let them be disgraced.
Since they hid their net for me without cause,
and without cause dug a pit for me,
may ruin overtake them by surprise—
may the net they hid entangle them,
may they fall in to the pit, to their ruin.
But as for me, afflicted and in pain---may your salvation, God, protect me.”*
You are my defender, oh Lord my God.
